Barbette Gun: A type of weapon that was fired over a parapet. Early designs were for 8-, 10-, and 12-inch guns. A new gun was designed during the WWI time frame and provided for increased firing elevations and ranges for larger caliber guns. This new design became the standard coast artillery carriage for 6-, 8-, 12-, and 16-inch caliber guns.
